Two Sides, One Soul

Stereo has two sides, a restaurant and a lounge, held together by one belief: the best memories are made around a table, with something delicious on your plate, something soulful in your ears, and the people you love beside you.

The kitchen cooks Southern. The Stereo 41 Family built World Famous Hotboys on honest cooking that honors the Southern legacy; Stereo is its fullest expression. The menu draws from roots in Virginia and Nashville, family recipes from Chef De La Torre of Arkansas, and the Louisiana traditions of executive sous chef Antwan Williams. Hot skillet cornbread. Shrimp creole. Fried chicken and collard greens. A short rib pepper pot, and a bouillabaisse that will leave you dreaming about coming back. Shareable plates, just as right for a table of one as a table of twelve, each an homage to the tradition it comes from. We don’t do fusion and we don’t reinvent the wheel; when we riff, it’s out of respect, not novelty. (And no, the hamachi tostadas aren’t going anywhere.)

The lounge is a listening room: some nights a DJ, some nights curated playlists (soul, funk, disco, hip hop, and Latin, depending on the vibe) through a hi-fi sound system, more your cool aunt’s record collection than a nightclub. Which isn’t to say hips stay still; the funk gets into people, and there’s a reason we took Best Late-Night Dining.

We’re proud of the room we keep: voted Best New Restaurant and Best Late-Night Dining in Diablo Magazine’s Best of the East Bay 2026, a block from Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek, with the kitchen open until 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. The East Bay’s Southern tables have always lived across the tunnel in Oakland; we wanted one on this side.
